3G Venue Cast

Imagine using your mobile phone in a sports arena to receive video from multiple cameras, providing you with different angles while watching a live basketball game. How about also viewing the latest stats and watching the half-time interview? Perhaps during a long commercial break, you can participate in a lucky drawing by voting for the video showing the most spirited fan? If a winning coupon is sent to your mobile phone, don’t forget to redeem your prize on your way out of the arena!

The 3G Venue Cast team at the Qualcomm Research Center (QRC) is developing technology that enables a multi-dimensional experience at various venues such as sporting events, theme parks, university campuses, etc. by providing additional and localized content to mobile devices. 3G Venue Cast also provides a platform for creating venue specific applications such as social networks, chat rooms and user generated content to further enhance the user’s experience in these venues. The 3G Venue Cast platform can leverage the multicasting capabilities of various air interfaces such as EV-DO, HSPA or MediaFLO. The 3G Venue Cast team is demonstrating venue cast via EV-DO at CTIA 2009 in Las Vegas.
