Funding Guidelines

The mission of Qualcomm's community involvement is to develop and strengthen communities worldwide. Qualcomm invests its human and financial resources in inspirational, innovative programs that serve diverse populations. Specifically, Qualcomm aims to create:

Educated communities: Qualcomm is committed to improving science, technology, engineering and math education for students during their primary, secondary, and higher education years, and to expanding educational opportunities for under-represented students.
Healthy, sustainable communities: Qualcomm supports initiatives that result in clean, safe, healthy places to live and work. We strive to better the livelihood of underserved populations by providing basic human needs, with a focus on enhancing the welfare of children. Qualcomm is committed to being a positive and creative force in the protection and enhancement of our global environment.
Culturally vibrant communities: Through Qualcomm's support of arts education and outreach programs, the company helps young people develop innovative minds, and expands cultural enrichment opportunities to in-need populations.

Qualcomm's community involvement is primarily targeted in geographic regions where the company has a business presence.

Exclusions and Restrictions

Qualcomm Corporate Giving is restricted from funding:

US-based organizations without Internal Revenue Service 501(c)(3) nonprofit status
Individuals
Sporting events without a charitable beneficiary
Sectarian or denominational religious groups
Faith-based schools unless the school accepts students from all religious and non-religious backgrounds and the students are not required to adhere to or convert to any religious doctrine.
Faith-based organizations unless the programs are broadly promoted and the program's beneficiaries are not encouraged or required to learn about, adhere, or convert to any religious doctrine.
Organizations that advocate, support, or practice activities inconsistent with Qualcomm’s non-discrimination policies, whether based on race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, mental or physical disability, age, gender, gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, veteran status, pregnancy, medical condition, marital status, or other basis protected by law.
Primary and secondary schools. Note, these entities may be eligible for employee matching grants as long as they are not deemed ineligible by other exclusions and restrictions

Five-Step Submission Process

Step 1
Review the giving areas, funding guidelines, and FAQs to ensure that your program fits the criteria outlined for funding from Qualcomm.

Step 2
Complete the Letter of Inquiry Form.

Step 3
Qualcomm will email the proposal form if your organization has been invited to submit a funding request.

Step 4
If you receive a grant from Qualcomm, you will need to complete and return a tax receipt within 3 months of receiving our donation. The tax receipt must include the following:

Name of your organization
Organization address
Date funds were received
Amount of donation
Whether any goods or services provided by your organization to Qualcomm in consideration, in whole or in part, for this funding
If goods or services were provided, what are they? Please be sure to include a description and good faith estimate of value of their worth
Type of nonprofit organization (Ex: 501(c)3)
Name, title, and signature of the recipient
Contact email and phone number

Step 5
If you receive a grant from Qualcomm in the amount of $10,000 or larger, you will need to complete the Evaluation Form within 12 months of the award date.

Funding Cycle

Qualcomm accepts funding requests year-round and reviews each organization once per calendar year. The corporate giving committee reviews requests bi-monthly. Organizations may submit a letter of inquiry to Qualcomm once per calendar year.

Please refer to the table below for proposal submission deadline and review dates. If the 1st of the month falls on a weekend, proposals will be accepted on the following Monday. If the proposal does not have all required elements, Qualcomm will contact the organization, request the omitted elements, and, if possible, review in the current cycle. Qualcomm's fiscal year runs from October 1st through September 31st.

Proposal Submission

If you are invited to submit a proposal, a Qualcomm Community Involvement staff member will send you specific proposal submission instructions. Only one copy of the proposal is needed.

Notification

All Community Involvement inquiries are answered in writing.

Re-Applying for Funding

Organizations that are not invited to submit a proposal may resubmit a letter of inquiry twelve months after receiving a funding decision from Qualcomm.
Organizations that were invited to submit a proposal, but who did not receive funds, may resubmit a letter of inquiry twelve months after receiving a funding decision from Qualcomm.
